How to format and validate JSON online
Paste your JSON
Drop any JSON payload into the editor — API responses, config files, package manifests or a snippet from your logs.
Format or minify
Use “Format · 2/4 spaces”, “Format · tab” to pretty-print it, or “Minify” to squeeze it onto a single line for APIs and storage.
Fix syntax errors
Invalid JSON is reported with the exact line and column of the problem so you can jump straight to the offending character.
Explore the structure
Open the tree view to browse every object and array, see how many keys each node holds and which data type each value uses.
JSON formatter — frequently asked questions
No. The parser runs entirely inside your browser using the native JSON.parse() engine, so your payload never touches a server, a log file or an analytics script.
Formatting (pretty printing) adds indentation and line breaks so humans can read the document. Minifying removes every optional whitespace character, which makes the payload smaller and much faster to send over the network. Both produce exactly the same data.
The browser reports the exact character position where parsing failed. This tool converts that offset into a human-friendly line and column number and echoes the offending source line, so you can spot a missing comma, a trailing comma or an unquoted key straight away.
Escape converts raw text into a safe escaped string — quotes, backslashes, newlines and control characters become \n, \t and \uXXXX sequences. Unescape reverses that process. Use them when a JSON string has to travel inside another JSON string or inside a shell command.
No values are altered — only the order of object properties is changed, recursively. It is purely cosmetic and makes diffing two configuration files far easier to read.
