No. Every calculation happens inside your browser using JavaScript. The text never leaves your device and nothing is stored in a database.
Reading time assumes an average adult reading speed of 225 words per minute. Speaking time assumes 130 words per minute, the pace used for presentations and videos.
Text is split on whitespace, so hyphenated or apostrophised words are treated as a single word. Numbers and short tokens are counted the same way.
